iSAMS’ Knockout Summer Party
What do you do to wind-down at the end of the summer holidays before building up to the start of the new academic year? Perhaps you spent your final days of freedom ticking the last book off your summer reading list or relaxing in the garden with a drink? The same could not be said for iSAMS…
Here, we waved the summer off in true style (or not, as the case may be) with a spot of healthy competition in an “It’s a Knockout” challenge.
We were delighted to hold our annual Summer party at Whittlebury Hall this year, with all our colleagues and their families invited to participate in a fun-filled series of increasingly bizarre challenges.
Split into three Teams, we embarked on a knockout assault course and, fortunately for you, not so lucky for all involved, a photographer was close at hand to capture the action in all its glory.
Fee, Fie, Foe, Fall
And fall we did – a lot. This first event saw us adorning the largest clown outfits known to man, terrifying both the older and younger family members bearing witness to the chaos, walking across sliding floors towards the finish line. The first one to cross the finish was the winner.
From the circus to the zoo, we covered every spectrum of the entertainment field throughout the day. In the second event, we swapped our clown costumes for penguins before sumo wrestling one another. The aim of the game was to try and force your opponent out of the circle or to push them over to win. I don’t think the movie Happy Feet will ever be looked at in the same way again.
Crossing numerous inflatable hurdles in a hard hat which has a full glass of water on it sounds relatively simple right? Wrong. Very wrong. Once you reached the end of the course you had to empty what was left in the glass on your head into a bucket. The team whose bucket had the most water in at the end was the winner.
Bangers and Crash
In the fourth event, three members of each team straddled a giant inflatable sausage and, in space hopper style, raced against one another to the finish line. The fastest team were the winners.
Lining up, our teams had to throw wet sponges down the line to each other and finally over the inflatable castle. Here, the last team member would catch the sponge and squeeze the water out into a bucket. The team with the most water in their bucket won the challenge. Needless to say, you could barely make a puddle with the volume of water that actually made it into the buckets but, if you’d rung out the t-shirts of the participants, you’d probably have filled a lake!
Racing against the clock in our final event, our teams had to climb up an inflatable slide on their hands and knees whilst covered in bubbles, before sliding down the other side. The team who managed to get the most people over the obstacle within the time limit were the winners.
After a gruelling few hours and with remarkably few injuries, the Green Team emerged victorious - and they weren’t at all shy with their celebrations, enjoying a generous prize giving ceremony.
The calm after the storm
Winding down from the day’s activities, our assault course was followed by a lovely BBQ and drinks, with some afternoon entertainment for the children. As a fantastic day drew to a close, it wasn’t long before all the cupcakes and party bags were demolished too.
Only one question remains: how on earth do we top this next year?!
